Rizal Day

Dr. Jose P. Rizal (June 19, 1861-December 30, 1986)

It's the 30th day of the month of December again. Another holiday for the employees both public and private. But what are we celebrating? Is it for the preparation of New Year? No!!! We are celebrating for the death of our National hero Jose Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda otherwise known as Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

Who is Jose P. Rizal? and why are we celebrating his death?

Jose Rizal is a Filipino, a prominent nationalist reformist during the Spanish era. He put into writings all the sentiments against the Spaniards like writing in the Spanish La Solidaridad in Barcelona about the rights of the Filipinos, the most celebrated novels like

"Why independence,
if the slaves of today
will be the tyrants of tomorrow?"

- El Filibusterismo (The Reign of Greed)

and

"Not all were asleep
during the night
of our forefathers!"

- Noli Me Tangere (The Social Cancer).

He was accused for being involved in revolution. He was led into exile in Dapitan and then transferred to Fort Santiago where he is sentenced to death by firing squad. There also, he wrote his final words Mi Ultimo Adios. And on the 30th day of December year 1896, he died in Bagumbayan.

Bagumbayan which is now known as Rizal Park where we can see his monument are built to commemorate his sacrifices and works for the Filipino people and the 30th day of Decemeber wer considered as Rizal Day.

"Each one writes history
according to his convenience."

- Jose P. Rizal (Letter to Blumentritt on 22 August 1886)

Nihonggo Class

I'm quite saddened reminiscing the past my nihonggo class days from Nihonggo 1-4 during my second and third year in college!!! The laughter we felt whenever our very dedicated and beautiful sensei aloha cura will make a joke or simply her comments that we find laughable enough!!! The stress and pressure during the exam week which I believe I managed to pass with flying colors! The nervousness I felt whenever she call my name for recitation or just for me to construct a sentence using patterns specially the never ending wa-desu pattern as example. There, I gain a lot of friends like Agnes san, JJ sempai, Alva san, Maver san and etc.... I am given a chance to interact to different persons with different personalities!? different gender, age, gender etc... Some are quiet, some are jolly, some are quite naughty but all of us were gathered to study only one subject that is NIHONGGO. God, I miss those days!!! Now, that I'm about to graduate in May, this is one of the memories I will treasure in my heart till the end of my days!!!

To my classmates and sensei,

Mina san:

Domo Arigato Gozaimasu!!!

It seems that some of my classmates in nihonggo already graduated and some are about to graduate and Sensei will be expecting a baby boy soon.

Minna,

Omedetou Gozaimasu!!!

"The Series Challenge Season 3"

I'm very excited to participate in the challenges prepared by J. Kaye!!!

Again, reading books will be more fun than before!!!

For the first challenge entitles "The Series Challenge Season 3" I choose to read all the series of The Chronicles of Narnia of C. S. Lewis and Twilight of Stephenie Meyer. Though I already watched the two movies of Narnia and Twilight, I believe reading the book much more excites the imagination of the readers.

The reading list will be as follows:

1. The Chronicles of Narnia

a. The Magician's Nephew
b. The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (I already saw the movie!)
c. The Horse and His Boy
d. Prince Caspian (Like the other one, I already saw the movie!!!)
e. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
f. The Silver Chair
g. The Last Battle

2. Twilight

a. Twilight ( I already saw the movie and finished reading the book)
b. New Moon
c. Eclipse
d. Breaking Dawn

As for the other challenges, I haven't decided on what books in particular I will read but on local library I think it's much better if I choose Polytechnic University of the Philippines- Ninoy Aquino Learning Resource Center (PUP-NALRC) because of the proximity.

Please wait for further notice for the other challenges!!!

Happy Reading!!!

Merry X-mas!!!

I thought, I will not be able to spend Noche Buena at home because my brother is in the Hospital last Tuesday. Luckily he recovered from dehydration and the Doctor told us to go home and that I just need to give my brother a medicine two (2) times a day for a week. God is really good for curing my brother!!! It is really true just one word of God and we will be well.

To everyone again:

Merry Christmas !!!

"You create your own universe

as you go along."

Diet?

One of the great things I love about Christmas and New Year is FOOD!!!! Yeah!? Lots and lots of food. From simple spaghetti or pancit to different delicacies like relleno, sweet and sour pork etc... to fruits and salads (I bet lots of people will forget their diet), all the different varieties plus the beautiful fireworks and loud hip hop sounds on the side you'll find during this event. Most specially, all this things are nothing without our love ones celebrating with us!!!

Paula Bruhaha

Maybe you're wondering why I change the name of my blog from Paula Marie: Switch Witch to Paula Bruhaha. Bruha is a Filipino term for witch. I just added Ha on the last part to make it a combination of the word Bruha and Haha. Wherein, haha is the sounds coming from us whenever we laugh out loud.

Honestly, I'm really fond of witchcraft. I'm not really into demonic things but it's just so wicked!?

Christmas

Christmas is past approaching!!! I didn't realize it until yesterday, when I heard from a television show that it's 10 days to go before Christmas!!! Almost every night I hear children singing Christmas carols such as Jingle Bells, etc.... My brother already bought shoes, pants, and shirts for Christmas and New Year! As for me, I'll buy those on Dec. 20... Thank God!!! I may now have a chance to cook my signature spaghetti and homemade ham!!! I have to attend and complete the nine days midnight mass! So that my wish will come true!!! Even though I'm already 20 years old, I still hope to see Santa Claus putting gifts in the sock!!!

We should always remember the very essence of Christmas that it's not just buying fashionable clothes and getting gifts from your Godfathers and Godmothers but It's all about the birth of our lord Jesus Christ who saves us from being doomed to our sins!!!

To Everyone:

Advance Merry Christmas!!!

Who is Dewey?

Honestly, I don't personally know her! I just know her as a personality who manages the blog that hosts readathon and bookworm carnival but as I participate in the activities of her blog, it is as if I've known her since birth. her blog became the medium of entertainment during fun and trying times.

As I open her blog, I learned from a post that she already passed away. I offer my condolences to her family!!! I know the feeling of loosing someone close to you! Let's just pray for her soul! as well as to her family to be able to cope up in these trying times!!!

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed

I was walking along the beach with the Lord.

Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.

Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,

other times there was one only.

This bothered me

because I noticed that during the low periods of my life,

when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat,

I could see only one set of footprints,

so I said to the Lord,

“You promised me Lord,

that if I followed you,

you would walk with me always.

But I have noticed

that during the most trying periods of my life

there has only been one set of footprints in the sand.

Why, when I needed you most,

have you not been there for me?”

The Lord replied,

“The years when you have seen only one set of footprints,

my child, is when I carried you.”

Twilight fever

I watched the movie "Twilight" yesterday and I found it very romantic though it's more interesting while reading the book!!! Edward Cullen in the movie is not as godly as the book described him but he is so handsome and dashing while Bella Swan is very beautiful in her own right!? I remember Edward saying "I promise to love you forever, every single day of forever" to Bella which made me giggle a lot!? I can't wait for the next movie!!!

Jobstreet escapades

I don't know what got into my mind, why i pass a resume in www.jobstreet.com, an online hiring/advertising company but then I just told myself if I will not have any feedback after a week, it means, my fate is to only be a student till graduation. on the next day, I recieved a message from Jobstreet to come to their company on Monday for interview, that's why I thought maybe i will not remain jobless after all.

In the lobby of Jobstreet, I observed that everybody is speaking in English (with the slang on the side) so I tried to blend in by talking to my seatmate in English while waiting for my batch, which is Batch 11, to be called. A few minutes later, Ms. KC called our batch for interview, we were 9 in the batch, I was very nervous, still I was able to answer every question she asked me. After the interview she told us to wait in the lobby for the results of the initial interview. I went to the restroom afterwards, when I came back my batchmates are gone except for the 4 of us. my batchmate whom I dont remember the name told me that Ms. KC gave them a letter stating that they failed the interview. For a while, I am relieved. Several minutes past an intern called our name and told us that we have to take the exam, Well, the exam is quite difficult but I managed to pass it! Unfortunately, the other girl from my batch failed the exam because of her slow speed of typing. After waiting till 6pm, they gave me letter recommendations for teleperformance in Sucat, which I decline because of the location is to far from my school and in ePLDT Ventus.

Losing A Piece Of My Soul

I came to you the hour I was in pain
Looking for answers, I cried to you in vain.

I shared the many skeletons hiding in my heart,
I knew then you'd be my friend,
I knew it from the start.

Troubles ran like rivers, flowing through my life,
You picked the pieces up and help me through my strife.

When home wasn't home to me no more,
You opened up your heart, and opened up the door.

We cried into night until the early morn.
We solaced each other's pain and shared our many thorns.

As time flew, the air grew thick,
I saw our friendship fading, and my heart grew sick.

The day had arrived,
When it was time to say goodbye.

Now I sit alone,
reminiscing the past I'd blown.

It has been suggested that the poet, Paolo Manalo, is Bob Ong, but he has denied this. The books of Bob Ong are often humorous can produce feelings of nostalgia for the reader.

The pseudonym Bob Ong came about when the author was working as a web developer and a teacher, and he put up the Bobong Pinoy website in his spare time. The name of the site roughly translates as "Dumb Filipino," used fondly as a diminutive term. "Although impressed," Bob Ong notes, "my boss would’ve fired me had he known I was the one behind it.” The site received a People's Choice Philippine Web Award for Weird/Humor in 1998.

When someone contacted him after mistaking him as an actual person named Bob Ong, his famous pseudonym was born.

Moot Court and Human Rights Seminar and Workshop

"Teacher's Camp in Baguio"
picture taken by: Heidi Ortiz

On our departure in the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Antique House to Baguio, I noticed a lot of third year bringing 2 or 3 bags or luggage and it seems that it is there first time going to Baguio and as for me I only bring one luggage for the clothes, shoes and etc. and a small bag for the mobile phone, mp3's and wallet.

On the bus, I sat beside Iola Vianka, a good friend of mine. Actually, I tired myself to death prior to the day of the departure so that I will be able to sleep because I know it will be a 6 hours trip with 15 minutes stay on bus stops. At first, I'm having problems getting sleep because everyone is so noisy but in the middle of our trip everyone fell asleep and it became a pleasant night (actually a day because its midnight) for sleeping for everybody.

Upon arrival to the teacher's camp everyone is so excited going down to get their luggage and take pictures with their peers. The problem is, we have to carry our luggage up to the dining hall wherein the stairs is very high like you're going up to the 100 stairs in Grotto.

After the breakfast, we have to go to our room in the third floor room 313. My room mates are Ana Lorena, Iola Vianka, Romina, Jezaline, Monica Dianne and Ma. Ethel Christine. Tin (ethel) told me that the room is ok in sarcastic manner, i ask why she said that, she replied the room number is 13 which some people believe corresponds to evil.

During the Moot Court, I learned about the proceedings, the proper address to the court officials, the timing and etc. Unfortunately, we didn't win the case but it's OK the experience is still worth it.

The talks in the Seminar like human rights, rights of GLBTQ (Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgendered, and Queer), Rights of Indigenous People, Rights of Women and Children and etc. is very informative. as well as, the workshops, which I enjoyed the most. I would like to thank my Harassment (the name of the group) group mates for their cooperation and to our facilitator Kuya Bryle and Kuya Icko for helping us out. And

Congratulations!!!

to all of us for winning the best Group Cheering Song entitled:

'Harassment'

During our stay, I am very frightened because White Hall is known for it's creepy stories. Fortunately, I haven't seen any ghost but a classmates of mine namely Melwin, Paul and Roma Nicko told us that on their room on the second floor they hear a crying sound of a girl.

Moving on, I would like to thank the third year for the tribute and the food on the Labo-Labo Night!

A View of Baguio
in the Bench of

Good Shepherd Dormitory

picture take by: Paula Marie F. Valles

On our fourth day, our free day, we went to Mines View Park, Botanical Garden, catch a glimpse of the Mansion, SM Baguio, Good Shepherd Dormitory, Baguio Palengke and Burnham Park where we ride a boat. On the evening, the rain starts pouring so we have to hurry back to teachers camp, where we stay while waiting for the bus.

Lastly, My experience fot the entire four days stay in baguio are the one of the memories I will never forgot.

I am not feeling well!!!

Few days from now, we are going to Baguio for the moot court but still I'm not feeling well! Maybe because of the stress and lack of sleep from the seminar. I hope my condition will get better before the trip to Baguio because it will also be very tiring!? I'm very happy with regards to the room and bus assignment because the people I am going to be with in my one week stay in Teachers Camp (creepy!!!) are all my friends.

To all the respondents:

I believe that we will be able to win this case!!!

God is with us!!!

Good Luck!!!

The Success of the "Youth's Knowledge is our Nation's Future Seminar"

"Youth's Knowledge is our
Nation's Future Seminar"

a.k.a.

Parliamentary Practice and Procedure
and
System of Government Seminar

The mere preparation for the seminar is very tiring!!! Problems such as lack of envelopes, papers, supplies and etc., the speakers who still don't have a power point presentation, the kits, the chairs and many more... Even the day of the seminar itself is very tiring, we have to perform logistics (which is usually given to the guys for carrying chairs, tables etc.) because we don't have any guy member in the group!!!

In the end, the seminar is very successful!!! thanks to the cooperation of all members of the group, the sangguniang kabataan (sk) of Binangonan, Rizal for participating in the seminar and to the undying support of the very kind Mayor of Binangonan, Rizal, Mayor Boyet Ynares...

Lastly, I thank the Lord for all the blessings he have given and about to give us!!!

Tribute

as I said before, I am going to post an article to pay tribute to the person I owe my life, and with that I will post a poem from that I believe will show my appreciation to this person...

I just want to let you know
What is on my mind.
You know that I love you so.
You are one of a kind.

In my heart, there's a special place
Where all of your love lives.
Everything's in a special case
And all my love to you I give.

It hurts me when I see you cry,
Makes my tears come running down.
And I always know the reason why
I can see it in your frown.

When, late at night, you're asleep in bed
And I'm still wide awake.
I creep in your room and kiss your head
For the sweet dreams it will make.

Don't look back in the past
Or listen to the bad things I say.
For they are untrue, I regret them fast
I love you more each and every day.

I wish I could kiss away your pain
And dry your lonesome tears.
If I could, I'd stop your unwanted rain
And scare away your fears.

No words can explain how I feel.
I can never thank you enough.
For all the love and pain you've healed
When all my times got tough.

I wrote this poem as I sat
Thinking of my Mama, so true.
In rough times, always remember that
Mama, I Love You!!!

Force Majeure

Force Majeure - (French for "superior force") is a common clause in contracts which essentially frees both parties from liability or obligation when an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond the control of the parties, such as war, strike, riot, crime, act of God (e.g., flooding, earthquake, volcano), prevents one or both parties from fulfilling their obligations under the contract. However, force majeure is not intended to excuse negligence or other malfeasance of a party, as where non-performance is caused by the usual and natural consequences of external forces (e.g., predicted rain stops an outdoor event), or where the intervening circumstances are specifically contemplated.

Teachers Camp

When the decision regarding the place where the moot court will be held was served, final and executory!? The creeps that I felt for almost a year ago come back!!! Imagine, I don't have a choice but to go back to Baguio again, (I like Baguio but the place where we are going to stay is very scary!!!) specifically on teachers Camp.

A year ago, I together with the whole 3rd and 4th year student of our department went to baguio to attend the youth congress and youth camp. Me and some of my friends were assigned to "textbook," the name of the cottage. Every night, I have to sleep early not because of lack of sleep and tiredness but because of the fear of seeing a ghost. Imagine, the ghost have a name!!! that's true!? the ghost name is Lulu. I ask my friend why did they named the ghost Lulu, she answered back: "because Lulu is a short term for lulutang-lutang (I don't know if she is trying to put up a joke).

the whole week that we stayed in textbook, I experienced a lot of scary things though I have'nt seen a ghost still you will feel their presence. I remember telling a friend that there is someone in the balcony but she said there is no one there (hmmm... i don't want to investigate further about it), Also, i heard some classmates telling that the comfort rooms give them creeps, as well as they keep on telling that it seems no one is occupying the cottage (how come? every night, my classmates turn on their mp3's and stereos up to the maximum volume which is as if they were having a party!? so, it's impossible that you will not hear the sounds and see the lights are always turn on...

One thing that creeps me most, is the fact that we are going to stay in the page hall. I've heard from some fellow students that they keep on hearing footsteps and a girl singing in the hall which later on justified by my friends...

well, I've heard teachers camp is already renovated, I just hope the ghosts will leave the camp soon!!!

tallying: may cause brain damage

I never felt that tallying a survey will be nerve wrecking and may cause brain damage!?

You may call it absurd! but if you are going in my position right now, I know you will feel the same!?

honestly, I've attended statistics class during my 2nd year in college that's why in one way or another i've got an idea on how to do it, getting the mean, medium, mode etc. still it's different from the actual tallying than reading books and learning the formulas.

I hope to finish everything soon...

Weekly Errands

this week I've got to:

a. do the chapter four of our thesis. Hopefully, chapter 5 will follow!!!

b. print my written report on legal basis of accountability

c. print and pass my answered module

d. review labor code and cases

e. start reviewing the Philippine constitution as suggested by mam daye

Tallying

I'm tired!?

it seems my head will burst like my friends keep on saying after drinking liquor! Honestly, I haven't got a chance to drink liquor and I don't have plans for that!?

maybe you're wondering why I feel this way, the reason is our thesis!?

the super duper mind boggling thesis!!!

I did lots of thesis paper during my lower years in college but this paper is different because we need to conduct survey (which i keep on telling to you guys it's physically and mentally draining!?) and to generate the results of the survey by tallying and getting it's percentage (I do not fear numbers unlike others do!? but this tallying really got me going insane!?).

Unfortunately, we haven't got a chance to finish our thesis but the good news is our defense were move and we don't have to cram like other groups in are class are doing!?

Friday, October 3, 2008

What is Thesis?

A thesis statement declares what you believe and what you intend to prove. A good thesis statement makes the difference between a thoughtful research project and a simple retelling of facts.

A good tentative thesis will help you focus your search for information. But don't rush! You must do a lot of background reading before you know enough about a subject to identify key or essential questions. You may not know how you stand on an issue until you have examined the evidence. You will likely begin your research with a working, preliminary or tentative thesis which you will continue to refine until you are certain of where the evidence leads.

The thesis statement is typically located at the end of your opening paragraph. (The opening paragraph serves to set the context for the thesis.)

Remember, your reader will be looking for your thesis. Make it clear, strong, and easy to find.

After Survey

My feet is still aching for walking for almost 7 hours as well as my hands for writing the answers of all our respondents this morning... I bet vianka is also tired... we're the one who distribute the survey questionnaires...

Now, I realized the difference of the character of each person that's why they are called individuals because some of the respondents we ask to answer the survey questionnaires are snobbish, bully, ignorant (i dont want to explain it), still, some are very nice and approachable.

other than that, I thank the lord for all his blessing and also all the respondents for helping us in our thesis.

after the physical torture (conducting a survey), we will come to mental and emotional torture of tabulating the survey forms, doing chapter 4 and 5. also, my newly discovered chapter 6 which is the frontpage, abstract, table of contents, list of tables and figures, approval sheets, dedications and acknowledgements...

i hope to finish all of this tomorrow...

Pain

losing someone you love either through death or break ups is really painful.

I've felt this pain a lot of times from the death of my grand father, then my best friend going to province because of family problem and the recent one the death of my parents.

during those times i wanna ask God why? but the only answer I've got is the words of my mom that God will never give you a problem that you cannot surpass. Also, If got get something or someone special to you it means he got more wonderful things to give you.

though in this trying moments of our life our faith in him is being tested, how much do you love him...

as for me, until now I lament for the death of my parents but whenever I miss them, silently I pray to God to open the doors of heaven so that my parents will be in his kingdom, the kingdom wherein only joy and happiness you'll only feel.

to the people who lost there love ones do not lose hope you'll be able to overcome this trials!!!

always remember:

Dreams

"You are born to fly, and in dreams you discover the soul has wings"

--Robert Moss, Dreamgates

"Virgo, the Virgin"

23 Aug - 22 Sep (31 day span)

The Sun in Virgo represents Analytical and practicality.

Embodiment of the individual in the world; problems of adjustment dealing with the world and others; perfection of your approach to life, development of mundane skills; ability to change to adapt to life better.

Service, helping, self-effacing; perfectionist, always seeking to improve, efficiency; practical, functional, interested in crafts and projects; true to self in a simple, unassuming manner; reacts to defeats and setbacks by pulling back and altering approach, lacks confidence in the face of opposition; lives up to duties and responsiblities; interested in maintaining the body as a fit vehicle; diet, exercise, herbs, etc.; aware of conflicts with others, of the give and take required by life.

Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac. Virgos are born between the period of August 23 to September 23. The ruling planet of Virgo is Mercury. The symbolic representation of a Virgo is a Virgin, the embodiment of purity.
Virgo is the only zodiacal sign represented by a female—a female who is creative, delicate, lovely and young. Virgos are considered to be emotionally cold. They can suppress their genuine feelings, and on the whole are non-committal and distrustful in personal relationships.

Virgos are adept in concealing their real intentions and apprehensions and try to appear matter of fact, non-demonstrative, quiet, and reserved. This lends them a unique charm and dignity. Even male Virgos are usually somewhat effeminate. They can be technically perfect and affectionate spouses, but not passionate lovers. They do not open up their heart and show their genuine love or compassion for their mates and may appear aloof and cold.

A Virgo born under the influence of Mercury is known to be petty, selfish, picky, discriminatory, critical, fussy, worrying, harsh, shrewd, mobile, and argumentative and these traits of his personality can tempt him to be dishonest in business too.

Virgos are realistic, practical, meticulous, diligent, analytical, logical, and methodical in their approach. They enjoy thinking more than acting. Constant thinking sharpens their brains and endows them with a computer-like memory that is massive, accurate and logical. The mental ingenuity of a Virgo can clearly analyze the most intricate issues. They have a keen eye for detail and due to this thoroughness, they sometimes tend to lose focus and ignore the larger aspects. This can delay the execution of their projects. They are easily discouraged by failures. They do not trust themselves and distrust others too and therefore, are afraid to take responsibility. They are happy to follow rather than lead.

Virgos have a great flair for arts and languages. They use the language with grammatical and etymological correctness without any literary tastes. They have good memory for quotations and can express themselves extremely well.

Virgo is the sign of harvest. Harvesting also involves separating grains from the chaff or the useless from the useful, and this by itself is a process of purification. A constant practice of this activity percolates down into the sub-conscious mind purifies the soul. This explains why Virgo has a Vestal virgin as it symbol.

Though logic and rational thinking are important, Virgos need to work on the emotions of love, trust and friendship, to lead a more fulfilling life. Many events in life occur which cannot be explained by cold calculative analysis. Constant distrust and aloofness may create multiple problems. Virgos must learn to live and adjust with others with trust and confidence. They should accept others as they are and not as they want them to be. The negative aspects of the zodiac can cause a lot of tensions and problems.
