Last week, I heard about the news regarding the plan to increase the tuition fee (subject to the approval of the BOR) in my dear Alma matter, Polytechnic University of the Philippines. At first, my comment was "Ah! okay!!!" as if its not a big issue because since undergrad there are lot of debates regarding the subject matter it was like I got used to it! Plus the fact that they will have a hard time in passing the law increasing the tuition fee since there are lots of student who will oppose and protest against it! It will really take some time!
A friend of mine told me that there is an information regarding the tuition fee increase in College of Law. As I read the post, I really can't believe that they plan to have a 100% increase much worse more than 100% in the undergrad courses. Although, I will not be affected by the said law, still, I sympathize with those incoming freshman and transferees.
As we all know, PUP is one of the state universities who offers a quality education with a low tuition fee , in fact, when I was in the undergrad I only paid around P300-P600 per semester (a total of tuition fee and miscellaneous fees). Even though, the tuition fee is very low, there are still a lot of students who pay in installment basis because of some obvious reasons.
Maybe a 10-20% increase in tuition fee is not bad considering that there was no tuition fee increase for several years but not 100% or more because there will be a lot of aspiring freshman who instead of enrolling will just work because they don't have enough money to finance there studies.
